Homelessness is a Housing Problem
During October, Indianapolis had the great honor of hosting author, Gregg Colburn, for an eye-opening dialogue.
Gregg’s book Homelessness is a Housing Problem is motivated by a desire to shed light on the root of the homeless crisis by challenging the dominant and misleading narrative that homelessness is driven by substance use, mental health, and other individual-level factors. Gregg’s research provides important insight into the structural factors that drive homelessness in cities across the country. As the title indicates, Gregg’s book illustrates that one of the most important root causes of the homelessness crisis is the local housing market.

We create collaborative housing solutions to drive community change.
CHIP - Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention is the only organization in Indianapolis driving a system-wide, community response to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring.
Through leadership and collaboration, CHIP:
Secures funding for housing and services
Manages and analyzes data collected by homeless providers
Advocates for policy change at the local and national levels
Supports community partners as we work together to end homelessness
CHIP board and staff members believe that successful efforts toward ending homelessness require the collective talents, resources, and commitment of the entire Indianapolis community. No one group or individual has the ability to address these issues alone. We need your help to create collaborative housing solutions to drive community change in Indianapolis.
