Facts About Homelessness

Despite investments of time, energy, and millions of dollars, many Indianapolis residents have repeated spells of homelessness. The people who are homeless include Families, Veterans, Domestic Violence Victims, and Youth "Aging Out" of Foster Care.

Homelessness results from many factors, including Employment in low-paying jobs, unemployment, Mental Illness, Substance Abuse, Prisoner Reintegration, and medical disability/lack of insurance.  However, the lack of affordable Housing, which leads to high rent burdens, overcrowding, and substandard housing, is the leading cause of homelessness.
