The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention of Greater Indianapolis (CHIP) is a nonprofit agency created in 1996 to advocate for homeless and near-homeless people in Indianapolis and to help organizations that serve them work together to foster an effective, coordinated community-wide approach toward ending homelessness. By coordinating efforts, lives can be turned around, cities can be made healthier, and dollars can be stretched to better serve more people.

CHIP is not a provider of services to homeless and near-homeless persons. Rather, it is a focal point and a resource for service providers. As the lead entity for implementing the Blueprint to End Homelessness, our responsibilities include: resource development on behalf of priority projects; community education; capacity building and technical assistance; and, fostering coordinated service delivery and systems integration.

CHIP is unique in many ways. We are the only organization working with others to coordinate an effective community response. Our goals include to:

• foster a more effective community-wide response to homelessness that will benefit all men, women and children
• serve as a resource for all housing and service providers assisting homeless persons through training and technical assistance, community education, resource development, and planning and research
• secure resources on behalf of other organizations willing to work together to implement model programs
• coordinate programs across different systems and thereby reduce duplication or fragmentation of efforts
• link volunteers and donors to programs in need of assistance
