Increasing Access

  • In early 2011, Connect-2-Help identified a staggering 1,849% increase in the number of calls for assistance from Latinos. Yet many mainstream basic need service providers saw just a minimal increase in actual services to Latinos this past decade. Catholic Charities undertook a research project, Increasing Access:  Understanding and Overcoming Barriers to Services in the Latino Community, to understand if services to our Latino neighbors are adequately reaching them, and if not, what we can do to make sure our community’s system of service comprehensively reaches all members of our community.  This report describes the size and circumstance of the Indianapolis Latino Community; the level of participation in various types of services; and outlines nine specific recommendations that the Indianapolis community should consider to address needs and barriers to effective, responsive services and solutions.  Download the report in English and Spanish:
