Youth Initiative

CHIP is developing a strategy to provide long-term preventative solutions to youth homelessness through improved housing and youth-centered transition services.

The Development Phase of this Youth Initiative will include the following action items:

  • Cultivate support for the need for preventative services and housing for youth;
  • Develop key partnerships in the housing, service, and funding sectors;
  • Negotiate transition plans among service providers to help youth move from the system to independent living;
  • Provide training to service providers on how to identify and address the comprehensive special needs of this population; and
  • Create a comprehensive implementation plan and operating model that integrates research and national best practices.
  • The Acquisition or Rehabilitation Phase will identify new housing units, form partnerships among housing and service providers, and secure appropriate on-site staff.

    The Expansion Phase will continue program evaluation and build ongoing community awareness and partnerships. The goal is to create up to 30 housing units with supportive services by the end of 2011 and expand those units as much as three times by the end of 2013.
